The first part of the first day of the capsule will give the participants an overview of the sports industry i.e. who are the major stakeholders and what role do they play in the whole ecosystem. The capsule will cover the governance of sports which primarily is the role of the Federations controlling any particular sport, role of national governments and how they contribute to the overall policy-making pertaining to sports & fitness in a country, the role of private players i.e. sports agencies & broadcasters, the sponsors and the players.
The capsule will feature a case study on the running of a top international governing body for the sport and how it works with various partners for running the sport.
The second day of the capsule will cover the aspect of conducting a major sports event viz. FIFA World Cup, Olympics, etc. Conducting any event of this scale requires mammoth efforts from all the stakeholders involved and the capsule will talk about the various functional areas involved in conducting such an event. Further, the conduct of any private sporting event like a league varies as compared to any other global event. The capsule will talk about that as well with a case study on differences in the conduct of FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 and the RuPay Pro Volleyball League based on the facilitator’s experience.
The third day of the capsule will talk about the three main pillars of the sports industry i.e. sports marketing, sports media & sports broadcasting. The whole economics of the sports industry revolves around these three pillars and hence it will be interesting to understand how they function.
Athletes are the key to any sport and managing them in the most professional manner both on & off the field of play constitutes a very key area of sports management. Day 3 of the capsule will also cover this aspect while also integrating sports law and sports medicine which are critical part of athlete management as well as otherwise in general in sports as well.
For any sport to sustain itself and grow gradually, it is very important to have a structure in place for grass root as well as amateur sports. The first session of day 4 of the capsule will cover these two very important aspects of the sports industry with some case studies on best practices for grass root sports and amateur sports from around the world.
Science & Technology is rapidly changing the landscape of sports globally be it with regard to how fans engage with the sport on a day to day basis or technological advancements when it comes to sports goods & equipment. The final session of the capsule will cover the same along with the rapidly expanding E-sports and the opportunity it presents.
