Introduces students to the skill of writing for the screen. It explores various forms and methods of scriptwriting such as script formatting, story generation and genre writing. Students will be able to: understand the role and power of story and storytelling; understand film and television genre and style; understand the tools of screenwriting and the elements of a script; understand the concept and design of scripts, including structure, character and characterization; appreciate the role of critical analysis of film and television.
Introduces students to the art of direction and the role of a director. There will be discussions about Directors around the world and how each of them have different styles. This will again be an interactive session where the students would be asked about their preferences and why they prefer a particular director.
Introduces students to the technical skills of filmmaking in the areas of digital media, camera, lighting and sound.Students will be able to: understand digital media; understand and use a range of digital and film cameras; understand lighting; understand sound; understand the roles within the camera crew; understand the principles of cinematography; understand laboratory processes.
Introduces students to the art of editing and gives them the requisite technical skills to edit. It explores ideas of narrative and how to cut; also the relationships in the editing process including the director/editor relationship.
The students will be briefed about the business side of the profession. They will be taught how to market their films; make a pitch for funding; look for apt sponsors and the importance of collaboration.
Introduces students to the production skills of film making in the areas of continuity, assistant directing, and art department and production management.Students will be able to: understand the role of continuity and script supervision; understand the role of the Assistant Director; understand the art department; understand the film production office and the film crew.
Students will be introduced to world cinema & different directors. They’ll be shown clips from the most celebrated films from around the globe. This will help them distinguish between fiction and non-fiction cinema, and will also broaden their understanding of stylistic film making.
The students will be taken to a local busy area where they’ll be asked to identify a character and make a short film of five clips with their phones. They would be asked to take the footage home and do a basic edit.
All student films would be reviewed in class, where they’ll be asked to present as well as explain their selection of storynarrative and main characters.
